Introduction
The Go.Learn mobile app gives you the opportunity to actively contribute to the learning experience of your company by uploading your content to channels and sharing it with your colleagues. In turn, you can take advantage of the contributions (assets) posted by other people to extend your knowledge, and organize content into playlists. Please note that the term “asset” is used to refer to the content published as a contribution in the platform.
You can also receive comments and questions on your assets, or comment and ask questions to other people on the content they uploaded. Let’s outline how channels are used to organize content in your platform.
More information on how to manage channels and their content on the desktop platform
Viewing channels
Channels are streams of topics including the assets uploaded by experts and users. They can also include courses and learning plans created by the administrator. With channels, you can easily and quickly access content divided by categories or topics. Channels are visible by accessing the main menu of your app, then selecting All channels.
The All channels page lists all the channels available on your platform.
While you may have specific channels created by the administrator in your platform, the following three channels are always available:
- Continue to watch and learn. This channel includes all of the items, either courses or content, that you still need to complete.
- New invitations and subscriptions. This channel includes all of the content that has been shared with you and the courses or learning plans in which you are enrolled.
- My learning activity history. This channel includes all of the items, either courses or content, that you have already completed.
Additionally, you may see the My skills channel. When this channel appears in your app, you’ll be asked to fill out your skills when you log into your app. Learn more about the My skills channel.
Both on the All channels page and on the individual page of every channel, you can filter content using the Filters button.
Tap on the Follow button to start following a channel. You will find the channels you follow on the Followed channels page that you can reach from the main menu of your app. If your administrator has configured them on the desktop platform, you will also be able to set notifications related to new content published in followed channels. Refer to the chapter Following channels of this article for more details.
Please note: only the specific channels created by your aministrator can be followed, while the channels always available in your platform (Continue to watch and learn, New invitations and Subscriptions and My learning activity history) and those populated by the Artificial Intelligence (such as My skills) cannot be followed.
As a learner, you can only view channels and content that your administrator has given you permission to view. This means that when you’re viewing another user’s personal channel, you may not see all of the content uploaded by that user if the user published the content in a channel that you don’t have permission to view.
Also, note that the number of views of an asset shown in the asset card in the channel page refers to the number of different users who viewed that asset. Therefore, if the same user viewed that asset twice, the number of views is incremented only by one unit, not two.
Following channels
From your All channels page, you can follow the channels you are interested in and then find them on the Followed channels page.
Click the Follow button to start following a channel. If your Administrator has configured the notifications related to followed channels on the desktop platform, a bell icon will appear. By tapping on the bell icon, you will be able to choose which type of notifications to receive on your desktop platform or via email, according to how your Administrator configured them. Please note that your Administrator may have set only some of these options:
- All notifications: you will receive a notification every time new content is added to the channel
- Digest: you will receive a single notification with a summary of the new content added to the channels you follow. Note that the frequency of your digest notifications is determined by your platform’s Administrator (hourly, daily, weekly or monthly).
- None: you will not receive any notification.
If your administrator has not set any notifications, the bell icon will not be visible.
Please note: You will only receive notifications related to the moment a piece of content is added to a channel. If a course that is not visible to you is assigned to a channel that you follow, and the visibility of the course is subsequently changed, you will not receive any notification.
To stop following a channel, tap Following to see the notification options at the bottom of the page, then tap on Unfollow. Confirm your action by selecting the Unfollow button in the window that appears.
The My channel page
Depending on how the administrator set up your platform, you may have a personal channel, named My channel. You can reach it by opening the main menu of the app and selecting My channel.
This channel collects all of the content that you have uploaded to the platform (your assets) and any playlists that you’ve created. When you upload a piece of content, if you choose the Only me option when deciding who you want to share it with, it will only be visible to you and the people that you specifically invite to view the content. When viewing your channel, other users will only see the content you uploaded in channels that they have permission to view.
Click on the Filters button to filter your content and use the dropdown menu to sort your content: alphabetically (A to Z or Z to A) or by date (newest to oldest or vice versa).
Sharing your content
Depending on how your administrator set up your homepage and the other pages of your app, you may see a plus icon on the bottom right corner of the page. Once you tap on the icon, you can decide which type of content you want to share: a link, a photo/video, or you can also ask a question to an expert.
Please note that you cannot share a YouTube playlist, but you can share single YouTube videos
If you are sharing a link, paste the website URL into the corresponding field. The link thumbnail, title and description may be automatically generated by the app, but you can modify them later in any case—please note that the automatic retrieval of information depends on the website’s server configuration and may not work for some websites. If no thumbnail is available, a default image will be loaded. Please note that in order to share a Google Drive document, you will share it as a link — from your content in Drive, make sure you generate the link from the Share functionality — by copy-pasting it in the corresponding field. Your Drive document will be opened in Go.Learn as any other link.
If you are sharing a photo or a video, either select them from your gallery or take them on the fly. The thumbnail is automatically generated, while you will need to write a title and description for the content you are sharing in the Details tab.
Then, once you have set all of the info in the Details tab, the following steps are the same for all of the types of content you are sharing.
Switch to the Sharing options tab, where you can decide who you want to share your content with:
- Channels and/or people. You can share the content with channels and/or other people.
- Only me. You can save the content only for yourself. The content is saved on your My channel page, and it will be visible only to yourself and will not appear in the search results of other users.
Once you have configured these fields, tap Next.
If configured by your platform administrator, the skills selection page will open, where you can search for the skills you want to assign to your content, or select them from the list of skills suitable for the content. By associating some skills to your asset, as long as your content is not private (you set the Channels and/or people sharing option), your content will be shown in the My skills channel of the users who assigned themselves those skills.
The maximum number of skills you can add to the asset is 50. You can also skip this step if you want. When you’re ready, tap Next to go to the following step.
Channels and/or People Sharing Option
If you selected the option to share the content with channels and/or people, on the People and channels page that opens after the choice of the skills, search for channels and people by typing and adding their names in the corresponding field, or choose them directly from the ones suggested by the platform Artificial Intelligence, or from the All channels list below. When you are ready, tap on the Share button. Your content has been shared successfully!
Please note that when the upload is complete, it may take a few minutes before the content is available on the app. While in waiting status, the content will be grayed out until it’s ready to be played.
When you share content with other users, they will find those assets in their New invitations and subscriptions channel. Please take into account that if the review of an expert is required, the asset will be published only after the channel’s expert reviews and approves the content.
When you share content with other users, they will receive a notification if this has been previously configured by the administrator.
If you publish your asset in more than one channel, remember that questions & answers and comments are shared between the channels you published your asset in. This means that if you share an asset with two channels with different visibility settings, and you add a comment, a question or an answer to one of the channels, you’ll find that comment, question or answer also in the other channel where you published the asset.
"Only me" sharing option
If you selected the Only me option, you will not be allowed to share your asset with any channel nor other people. When you are ready, tap on the Save button. Your content has been saved successfully on your My channel page!
Viewing your asset's page
After having published your asset, you can find it on your My channel page, and, if you have shared it with other channels, on the pages of these channels too. To view your asset’s page, tap on its card. On the page that opens, in the Overview tab, you’ll see the thumbnail, name and description that you set for your content, as well as the user who shared the asset (yourself, in this case), the channels where you’ve shared the asset, and an area to ask questions and leave comments. Switch to the Related content tab to view similar content suggested by the platform Artificial Intelligence. To open your asset, tap on the Open this asset button at the bottom of the page.
Viewing learning assets
Learning assets are materials or content contributed by other users. Once you tap on an asset’s card, either from the My channel page or from the All channels page, or from a specific channel’s page, you can then view general info about the asset in the Overview tab, and find similar content that may interest you in the Related content tab.
To play the asset, tap on the Open this asset button at the bottom of the app.
If the asset is a video, you can play it directly from the Overview tab by tapping on the Play icon. This allows you to read details and description of the asset while watching it. If you want to play the video in fullscreen mode, tap the fullscreen icon or rotate your device to landscape mode.
You can rate the asset after viewing it by pressing the Rate this content button, selecting the amount of stars that you want to apply to the asset, then pressing Rate now.
You also have the possibility to leave comments about the asset or interact with other users to ask or answer questions about it. For more information see the article Q&A and comments in the Go.Learn mobile app.
