Introduction
The Go.Learn app lets you interact with the content and with other users. Depending on how your app is configured, some courses or learning assets may have a comments or discussion section where you can post feedback or ask questions about the material. You may also have a separate Questions & answers page and an Ask the expert button that let you engage in broader discussions with experts and other learners.
Please note: The Questions & answers page and the Ask the expert button are only visible if the Discover, Coach & Share feature has been activated on your platform
Comments and questions&answers on a course or learning asset
When you open up a course or learning asset, if comments or questions are enabled on it you can find these at the bottom of the Overview tab.
There you will find:
- The latest question or comment, if any have been posted, and a View all… link to access the full discussion
- A New comment or Ask the expert button, or both
Tap the View all.. link or the latest question to open the Comments and questions page, where you can browse all the discussions pertaining to this course or asset:
- You can sort from newest to oldest or vice versa.
- If there is a combination of comments and questions, you can use the View options to see only comments, only questions, or both.
Use the New comment button to post a comment about this course or asset:
- On courses, comments are unthreaded and appear in chronological order.
- On learning assets, comments are threaded and you can also Reply to other users’ comments, as well as upvote or downvote them, and use mentions.
Use the Ask the expert button to post a question about this course or asset:
- On courses, you will have to select which course training material your question is about, then tap Assign, before writing the text of your question.
- On learning assets, you can directly write the question.
- You may also be able to Answer other user’s questions, if this is not restricted to designated experts.
- Questions and answers are threaded, and you can also upvote or downvote answers.
If required you can edit or delete your own comments, questions or answers: simply tap the item and select Edit or Delete.
The questions & answers posted on a course or asset will also appear in the Questions & answers page of the main menu. However the comments will not–they are visible only under the course or asset where they were posted.
Ask the expert
If enabled on your platform, an Ask the expert button, available on various pages of the app, lets you ask broader questions not pertaining to any specific training material.
To ask a question, on a page where the + button is visible in the lower right corner:
- Tap + then tap Ask the expert.
- In the Assign to content page, select the channel that best reflects the topic of your question, then tap Next.
- Now type the text of your question. You can also include mentions of specific users, assets or channels in your question.
- When you are finished tap Share.
Your question is posted and appears in the Questions & answers page.
Questions & answers page
In the Questions & answers page you can check the answers to your questions, as well as browse those others have asked, and participate in the discussion. To open it, tap the menu icon and then tap Questions & answers.
The page displays all the questions asked about channels, assets or courses that you have permission to view or in which you are enrolled. Within each question, the Related to link takes you to the item the question is about.
- Tap Answer underneath a question if you want to submit your own answer to it.
- Tap the Follow icon alongside a question that interests you to follow the discussion. You can later apply a filter to see only the discussions you are following.
- If a question already has answers you can tap View all answers to read them. You can upvote or downvote other users’ answers, as well as respond to them.
- You can edit or delete your own answers by tapping the comment bubble and then selecting the desired option.
To post a new question directly in the Questions & answers page:
- Tap the Ask the expert icon and select a channel. Then tap Next, type your question, and tap Share.
- You can edit or delete your own questions by tapping the ellipsis icon and then selecting the desired option.
You can use @ mentions of channels, users or assets in both questions and answers.
Tap the Filters icon to select what questions to display.
- For example, you can choose to show only your own questions, or questions you are following, or new questions.
- You can set whether to display only questions posted underneath courses/assets, or only direct questions associated to channels, or both types
- You can also filter to show only questions pertaining to a particular channel.
Using mentions in questions, answers or comments
Depending on configuration, when typing a question, answer or comment you may be able to mention other channels, assets or users. When this feature is available, you will see a @ icon in the text box where you are typing your post. You can use:
- /channel to mention a specific channel (/ followed by the name of the channel)
- #asset to mention a specific asset (# followed by the name of the asset)
- @user to notify a specific user (e.g. @john )
To mention a channel, asset or user, you can also tap the @ icon in the text box, then choose the corresponding option.
- A page with the list of channels, assets or users will open, according to your choice.
- Tap on the item to complete your selection, and it will be added to the text you are typing.
- Once you publish your text by tapping on the send arrow icon, the user you have mentioned receives a notification in the desktop version of their platform.
Please note: you can only mention users who have visibility on the channel in which the asset is located, and assets and channels that you have permissions to view.
On any published comment, question or answer that includes a mention, you can:
- Tap the name of a mentioned channel or asset to open it
- Tap the name of a mentioned user to open a page showing all the assets published by that user (ordered from newest to oldest)
