Self-Enrolling into Courses or Learning Plans
If you find courses or learning plans that interest you in a catalog, you can self-enroll into the course or learning plan directly in the app, so you don’t need to go to your platform’s desktop version to do so.
Please note that you cannot purchase courses or learning plans that are for sale directly in your app. In order to perform this activity, access your learning platform via desktop.
After selecting a course from the catalog, tap on the course image or title to view its details. Here, you can enroll into the course (if allowed by your Administrator), read a description about the course, and view a list of learning content included in the course.
When enrolling, your Administrator may require you to insert some additional information during the process. After filling in the additional fields, the Enroll Now button on the top right of the page is activated. Press the button to complete the enrollment process. Once you’re enrolled, the course or learning plan will be listed on your My Courses and Learning Plans page.
If self-unenrollment is allowed by your Administrator, you can self-unenroll from a course or a learning plan. In order to do so, press the ellipsis icon in the top right corner of the course’s page or the learning plan’s page, then press the Unenroll button at the bottom of the page. You are now unenrolled from the course or the learning plan that you selected.
Viewing, Commenting and Asking Questions on Informal Learning Assets
Viewing Assets
Once you tap on an asset’s card, either from the My Channel page or from the All Channels page, or from a specific channel’s page, you can then view general info about the asset in the Overview tab, and find similar content that may interest you in the Related Content tab.
To play the asset, tap on the Open This Asset button at the bottom of the app.
If the asset is a video, you can play it directly from the Overview tab by tapping on the Play icon. This allows you to read details and description of the asset while watching it. If you want to play the video in fullscreen mode, tap the fullscreen icon or rotate your device to landscape mode.
You can rate the asset after viewing it by pressing the Rate this Content button, selecting the amount of stars that you want to apply to the asset, then pressing Rate Now.
Interacting with Questions, Answers and Comments
You also have the possibility to interact with other users by asking questions to experts and by leaving comments on the asset. At the bottom of the asset’s page, tap on the Ask the Expert or on the New Comment button, then type your question or comment into the corresponding text box and publish it by tapping on the send arrow icon.
You can add your answer to a question and also post an answer to an answer, instead of answering the question itself. To do so, tap on Answer under the answer, insert the answer into the corresponding text box and tap on the send arrow icon.
Info on asking questions to experts on the desktop platform and on being an expert in your platform.
Please note: you can add comments, questions and answers only if the Discover, Coach & Share module has been activated in your platform by your Administrator
You can also ask a question to an expert by tapping on the plus button that may be shown on the bottom right corner of some of the pages, depending on how the Administrator configured your platform. Once you tap on the Ask the Expert button, the corresponding page opens, where you can leave your question to the channel’s expert.
If you are asking a question to an expert, before publishing your question you need to assign it to a channel. On the Ask the Expert page, tap on the plus button above the keyboard. On the page that opens, choose one channel to assign your question to, then tap on the Assign button in the top right corner of the page. Once finished writing your question, you can now post it by tapping on Add Question.
Once your question is posted, you can find it on the Questions & Answers page that you can reach via the menu of your app, on the Comments and Questions area on the asset page or in the Questions & Answers widget (if your Administrator has configured them for your platform).
You can edit and delete the questions, answers or comments you posted. Once selected, a panel with the two options will open at the bottom of the page.
If you want to view all of the comments and Q&As left on the asset, tap on View All Comments and Questions on the asset’s page, below the area where the latest comment or question is shown. The Comments and Questions page opens, where you can use the filters in the View Options panel to show only comments, only questions and answers or both Q&As and comments. Here, you can sort the items from newest to oldest (default order) or vice versa. You can also evaluate them selecting either a thumbs up or down icon at the bottom of each item, depending on how beneficial you find it to be. Once you have received some answers to your question (please note that not only experts can answer, but also other learners), you can mark one of the answers as the best one. If you want to reply to a specific comment or question, just tap on the corresponding button, then write and post your reply or answer.
Please note: you will find the comments, questions & answers that you left when viewing an asset on your mobile app also on your desktop platform on the pages of the corresponding assets.
Reach the Questions & Answers page from the menu of your app to view the answers to the questions you asked to the expert, and the questions you answered as an expert or a learner. This page also displays all of the questions asked about channels, assets or courses that you as a user have the permission to view or into which you are enrolled. From this page, you can also add your answer to a question. If you are interested in a Q&A thread, tap on Follow under the text of the question.
Mentioning Channels, Assets and Users in Your Questions, Answers or Comments
Depending on how the Administrator configured your platform, when typing your question, answer or comment you may be able to mention other channels, assets or users by using:
- /channel to mention a specific channel (/ followed by the name of the channel)
- #asset to mention a specific asset (# followed by the name of the asset)
- @user to notify a specific user (e.g. @john)
To mention a channel, asset or user, you can also tap on the @ icon in the text box, then choose the corresponding option. A page with the list of channels, assets or users will open, according to your choice. Tap on the item to complete your selection, and it will be added to the text you are typing. Once you publish your text by tapping on the send arrow icon, the user you have mentioned receives a notification in the desktop version of their platform.
Please note: you can only mention users who have visibility on the channel in which the asset is located, and assets and channels you have the permissions to view.
Once the comment, question or answer with the mention has been published, if you tap on the name of the channel or asset mentioned, the channel or asset page will open. If you tap on the name of the user mentioned, a page showing all of the assets published by the user will open (ordered from newest to oldest).
Downloading & Playing Offline Content
In the mobile app, certain types of training material (SCORM, uploaded videos, slides, files, and HTML page training material) can be downloaded, played and tracked offline. Full courses (but not learning plans) and informal learning assets can be downloaded as well. On the contrary, videos from Youtube, Vistia or Vimeo cannot be downloaded, regardless of whether they are training materials or assets.
Please note that this is only applicable for the mobile app, not the mobile browser version of the platform
When your app is online, access the course or the asset, tap on the ellipsis icon in the top right corner and then on the Download button that appears at the bottom of the screen. You can also download a specific training material by tapping on the ellipsis icon in the material's row in the Content tab of the course page, then tapping on the Download button that appears at the bottom of the page.
All of the content that is downloaded for offline viewing is compressed so that the required data to be transferred is reduced to the minimum size, thus saving time and memory space for the download. After the download is complete, they are expanded by the app so that they can be played immediately.
You can see the progress of the download directly on your app. In case there are any errors during the download process or if your device does not have enough free storage space to download the content, an error message and icon will appear. Once courses, training materials or assets are successfully downloaded, you’ll find them on the Offline Courses and the Offline Assets pages in the offline content area of your app. Access that section from your main menu, by tapping on the arrow icon at the bottom of the page, then enabling the Downloaded Only option.
Thanks to this functionality, you are able to play the downloaded courses, training material and assets when you’re in offline mode, and your progress in the course will be tracked. Once your app is online again, your progress will be synced and your platform will record the progress you made while offline. Please note that if you are playing the same training material on both the mobile app and your desktop platform, the most recent tracking will take priority.
You may also need to remove a course, training material or asset you previously downloaded from the offline content area (Offline Courses and Offline Assets pages). To do so, tap on the ellipsis icon in the card of the content you downloaded, then tap on Remove from Offline Content and confirm your action. Remember that you are removing the content from those available while offline, but it will still be available when your app is online.
To exit from the offline content area, tap on the menu icon in the top left corner, tap on the arrow icon at the bottom of the page, and then disable the Downloaded Only option.
Once your app is online again, the status of your enrollment into the courses that you downloaded in the offline content area is checked, and if a course expired or if you are no longer enrolled into a course, the course or the training material included in that course are removed from the Offline Courses area and deleted by the local storage. In this way, the content in the offline content area is always aligned with the status of your enrollments, and only courses into which you are currently enrolled (or training material included in the courses into which you are currently enrolled) are shown on this page.
Content Management in Your Mobile App
In your Go.Learn app, you can manage certain content that appears on some pages so you can ensure that the content on your app is relevant to your learning needs. The Hide or Unhide content functionality enables you to hide content in which you are not interested, so you can view only the content that is most valuable to you in your Go.Learn app. Additionally, the Mark Content as Outdated functionality enables you to mark content as outdated if you consider it old and no longer valuable to your learning experience. In this way, the quality of content published in the platform will improve and the overall content displayed in your platform will be enhanced.
These two functionalities are available both in the desktop version of your platform and in your Go.Learn mobile app. Learn more about hiding and unhiding content, and marking content as outdated in your platform.
Please note that the two functionalities work in the same way in the desktop platform and in your Go.Learn mobile app, except for the following minor differences:
- Once applied filters to show hidden content, in your mobile app you can recognize hidden items from the hidden badge on the item’s card, while in the desktop platform you can recognize them from the barred eye icon on the item’s card.
- In your mobile app, you can recognize items which are marked as outdated from the outdated badge on the item’s card, while in the desktop platform you can recognize them from the flag icon on the item’s card. From your desktop platform, you can see how many users have marked a content as outdated by hovering your mouse over the flag icon.
- If an asset that you uploaded in your My Channel page has been marked as outdated by another user, you will receive a notification in the desktop version of your platform, but not on your mobile app. Learn more about the notifications that you will receive.
