Introduction
Depending on how the platform Administrator set up your learning platform, when you are completing an e-learning course in your mobile app, you may be required to electronically sign (with an e-signature) that you completed it. By signing a course with an electronic signature, you are able to prove your identity.
In order to prove your identity, you will go through an additional authentication process after having completed all the mandatory training material included in an e-learning course requiring an E-Signature.
You will complete this second step of authentication by inserting a One Time Password (OTP) in the corresponding One Time Password field on the course player page and then validating it. The OTP is shown on your mobile device by an authenticator app that generates verification codes or is sent to you via email. For further information about what you have to do to complete this authentication process in your Go.Learn mobile app, refer to the next sections of this article.
Completing E-Signature Courses in Your Mobile App
If your Administrator set the E-Signature (and thus One Time Password authentication) as required to complete a course, you must prove your identity through a second step of authentication.
When you open the course page, you’ll recognize an E-Signature course from the E-Signature badge at the top of the course title.
Before having completed all of the mandatory training material included in the course, you’ll see a lock icon on the E-Signature item’s thumbnail. The E-Signature item is the last training material included in the training material list on the course page.
Once you’ve completed all of the mandatory training material, the lock icon will disappear, indicating that the E-Signature user authentication is now available. Then, after you complete the E-Signature step, a checkmark icon will appear on the E-Signature item’s thumbnail. The checkmark indicates that the E-Signature validation process is completed, just like your course!
In order to complete an e-learning course that requires an E-Signature, after having completed all of the mandatory training material inside of the course, select the E-Signature item from the training material box at the bottom of the course player page. The Verify your Identity via Authenticator App page will open, where you will be asked to enter the 6-digit verification code (One Time Password, OTP) shown in your authenticator app.
By default, you will use the authenticator app as an authentication method in your mobile app, but you can also choose to authenticate via email, if your Administrator also set up this authentication method for your platform.
Refer to the following sections in this article for further information about each authentication method, authenticator app or email.
If your session in the platform expires between the request and the input of the verification code, the code can no longer be accepted, and an error message will inform you that the verification failed. If so, launch again the e-signature training material and generate a new verification code to proceed.
Authenticator App Authentication Method
By using the authenticator app to verify your identity (it’s the authentication method used by default in your Go.Learn app), you just have to insert the One Time Password that you see in your authenticator app in the Verify your Identity via Authenticator App page and then validate the code in order to complete the E-Signature course.
If it’s the first time you use this authentication method, which means that your profile is not yet associated with the authenticator app, the Configure your Authenticator App pop-up box will inform you that you need to go to the My Profile page on the desktop version of your platform to perform the association (you can reach this page by selecting the user menu in your desktop platform and then the pen icon on the right of your name and email).
For any info about the authenticator app, refer to the article on e-signature, where you can find detailed explanations of how to download the app, open it, and associate your profile with it. You’ll also find info about pairing and unpairing your app, and generating a new recovery key. Remember that in order to manage your authenticator app and to perform each one of these actions, you need to access the desktop version of your platform and reach your My Profile page.
After having downloaded the authenticator application and associated it with your profile, you can proceed to verify your identity using the authenticator app.
At this point, open the authenticator app that you have previously downloaded on your mobile phone, tablet or PC, copy or memorize the 6-digit verification code (One Time Password, OTP) shown in the app and then paste or type it into the One Time Password field in the Verify your Identity via Authenticator App page. Then, tap on the Complete the Course button to validate your OTP. The E-Signature validation process is now completed, just like your course!
Please note that you may have more than one account associated with your authenticator app, and as a consequence you’ll see more than one code in your app. If this is your case, make sure you copy the correct code by selecting the row in the app that corresponds to your platform profile.
Please Note: If you have your authenticator app and your Go.Learn app on the same mobile device, you need to switch between the two apps to copy and paste the OTP code. Refer to the iOS Knowledge Base (opens in a new tab) and to the Android Knowledge Base (opens in a new tab) for info about how to switch between apps on iOS and Android devices.
If you have any issues finding your code and so you aren’t able to insert it in the One Time Password field, tap on the I don’t have a One Time Password option at the bottom of the authentication page. In this case, you must use the recovery key that you have generated on your profile’s page in the desktop version of your platform. Learn more about how to generate a recovery key.
If you have lost your recovery key, tap on the I can’t find my recovery key option. You will have to contact your Administrator.
In order to complete the e-signature validation process, insert your recovery key in the corresponding field and tap on Validate Recovery Key.
Because the emergency recovery key can be used only once, the system now generates a new recovery key, which is displayed in the pop-up box that opens. Save the new recovery key, and remember that if you lose access to your device, you won’t be able to complete the authentication process. Once saved your key, confirm it by selecting the corresponding button.
Email Authentication Method
If you want to use the email authentication method instead of the authenticator app method used by default in your mobile app, tap on the Use Email option at the bottom of the Verify your Identity via Authenticator App page. Remember that you can use your email to authenticate only if you have a valid email address associated with your profile.
If you don’t have an email address associated with your profile, you won’t see the Use Email option on this page. To add an email address to your profile, you need to access your My Profile page on your mobile app. In order to access this page, from the menu of the app, tap on the arrow icon on the right of your profile picture, name and surname (at the bottom of the menu), then tap on the My Profile item to open the page. Once you are on your My Profile page, access the Personal Details section and add your email address in the corresponding field or, if you don’t find this field, contact your platform Administrator.
At this point, once selected the Use Email option, the Verify your Identity via Email page opens. Here, in the One Time Password field, you will enter the 6-digit verification code (One Time Password, OTP) that was sent to you at your email address. In case of issues, you can tap on the Resend the One Time Password option and the OTP is sent again to your email (please note that you can ask to resend the OTP another time after a minute). Once inserted the OTP in the appropriate field, select Complete the Course. The E-Signature validation process is now completed, just like your course!
