Introduction

Docebo Creator is a powerful feature designed to streamline the creation and management of interactive lessons within your learning platform. With an intuitive interface, it allows you to arrange screens, add multimedia, and incorporate activities to engage learners. In this article, you will learn how to create and manage Creator lessons. You can create Creator lessons in two ways: from the Training material page or directly from the Admin menu.

Creating Creator lessons from the Training material page

As a Superadmin or Power User with granted permissions, Open the Admin menu from the gear icon in the top right corner of your platform. In the E-learning section, click on Training material.

To add a new Creator lesson in the Training material page, select a folder from the left panel, then click on the magic wand button (New Creator lesson) in the top right corner of the page. In the slide-out panel, set the Creator lesson title and, optionally, its code and description. The description will appear to learners as they play the course. You can edit it if needed by using the field text editor. When you’re done, click on Create and edit.

Creating Creator lessons from the admin menu

As a Superadmin or Power User with granted permissions, Open the Admin menu from the gear icon in the top right corner of your platform, then click on Creator.

Choosing your creation method

Regardless of how you accessed Creator, you will see a landing page with three options:

Blank lesson

Start from scratch and build your lesson step by step in the Creator editor. This gives you complete control over every element of your lesson content.

When you select Blank lesson, the Creator editor opens immediately with an empty canvas. To learn how to use the editor, refer to the article Editing lessons with the Creator tool.

AI-generated lesson

Build a structured lesson based on a prompt or document. The AI analyzes your input and generates lesson content automatically, which you can then refine in the Creator editor.

When you select AI-generated lesson, a screen opens where you can upload documents (PDF, DOCX, or other supported formats) or write a detailed prompt describing the lesson you want to create. After the AI has generated your lesson, it will open in the Creator editor where you can review and modify the content.

AI coaching scenario

Create an interactive scenario where learners practice real-life conversations with an AI avatar. This is ideal for developing skills like sales techniques, customer support, or management conversations.

When you select AI coaching scenario, you can enter a custom prompt or select from featured templates. Depending on your choice, you will configure your scenario using either the Sales scenario panel (for Sales templates) or the Custom scenario panel (for all other cases).

Managing Creator lessons

To manage your Creator lesson, find it in the Training material page and click on its title. As an alternative, click on the ellipsis button at the end of the Creator lesson’s row and select Edit.

Properties tab

Details

The Details vertical tab allows you to manage the details of the Creator lesson training material (except for the type, which cannot be changed). Upon creation, the training material is assigned to the folder where it was created. Use this area to move it to a different folder, if needed.

As an option, you can assign a thumbnail to the training material, and add a short description and tags (up to 15) to improve its searchability in your platform’s global search.

To enter the Creator editor, click on Edit content. Refer to the dedicated article to learn how to edit the content of your lesson with the Creator tool.

View mode

Move to the View mode vertical tab and select the view mode for the training material in the course player: inline, theater mode, or new window.

Assigned courses tab

The Assigned courses tab lists the courses to which the training material is assigned. Click on Assign to courses in the top right corner of the page to assign the training material to other courses by selecting them from the slide-out panel and clicking on Assign.

Please note! Before assigning a Creator lesson to courses, you must publish it. For more details, see Editing lessons with the Creator tool.

Notes for Power Users

• This tab is not visible for the Power Users who do not have View permission on courses.
• The Power Users who have the View permission on courses can see the tab and the courses assigned to them, but cannot create new assignments.
• The Power Users who have View and Edit permissions on courses can see the tab and the courses assigned to them as resources, and can assign the training material to the other courses they manage.

Creator lesson tracking

Creator lessons are published in xAPI format. However, they don’t have the same tracking settings as the other xAPI training materials in the platform. 

As learners play Creator lessons, the following events are tracked:

• Lesson opened: When a learner opens a Creator lesson
• Screen started: When a learner begins a new screen within the lesson
• Screen progress: Tracks the progress of the learner on a screen, calculated as a percentage
• Screen completed: When a learner completes a screen within the lesson
• Lesson completed: When a learner completes the entire lesson
• Page navigation: When a learner navigates to a new page of a document
• Activity submitted: When a learner submits an activity
• Scores: The scores achieved by the learner for activities
• Number of attempts: Tracks the number of attempts a learner makes on an activity
• Video started: When a learner starts watching a video (including AI video presenter)
• Video paused: When a learner pauses a video (including AI video presenter)
• Video completed: When a learner finishes watching a video (including AI video presenter).

Please note! Users must have a valid email address associated with their account for the platform to store tracking data for Creator lessons.
