Introduction
For those using test proctoring, your Docebo platform can integrate with Honorlock so that you can use its advanced proctoring features with your Docebo exams.
This article describes how to add Honorlock proctoring to VILT or e-learning courses in Docebo via the Central repository or via Course management functionalities.
Prerequisites
In order to be able to follow the steps described in this guide, your administrator has to have followed the steps described in Docebo for Honorlock: Administrator guide.
Adding proctoring to test training material via the Central repository
In order to proctor a test training material in the Central repository, the functionality must first be activated. To do so, access the Central repository by pressing the Gears icon and in the left menu, select Central Repository. Next, find the training materials for which you would like to add proctoring and press the title of the item.
In the Edit screen, place a checkmark in the Activate proctoring functionality and use Honorlock to validate this test checkbox.
Please note: Activating proctoring in a course will reset the tracking in the course for all learners. Learners that are enrolled but have not started or those that have completed the exam will not be affected. Learners marked with an In progress status, will see their progress reset and will need to restart the exam from the beginning.
Once Honorlock has been activated, you can, optionally, press the Edit Configuration button to change flags, thresholds and customize messages returned from Honorlock.
Setting flag thresholds
The Proctoring configuration tab of the Edit proctoring configuration slide-in panel will allow you to set limits for certain flags that, when exceeded, cause the test to be automatically failed or sent for manual proctoring review.
To override the system default settings configured by your administrator, you can activate the Enable custom configuration for this test checkbox.
Please note: The number of flags required to breach the threshold is by individual levels. If, for example, you have configured a test to be failed with five high flags and seven low flags, violations of high flags do not count towards the total of the low flags. Test-takers can, in this scenario, receive four high flags and six low flags and not fail or be marked as needing proctoring.
If you would like to enable automatic failing of a test once any of the thresholds have been exceeded, select the Enable automatically invalid test exceeding threshold checkbox. Doing so will bypass the proctoring step.
By default, this integration uses all the high, medium and low flags. By setting a threshold greater than zero for each group, you activate those flags. Once the threshold has been exceeded, the test is marked for review or failure depending on the test threshold automation setting.
If you wish to limit the types of flags used to count against a test-taker to specific flags, instead of using the default Proctoring session flag thresholds option in the Threshold settings, select the Custom selection of flag types radio button. This will allow you to choose all the necessary flags, ignoring the ones you wish to not count towards a negative assessment.
Once you have selected the Custom selection of flag types radio button, you can choose your custom flag selection by pressing Add new flag type.
Next, in the slide-in panel, select all the types of events you wish to monitor and, when done, press Confirm.
Once you have selected the flags you wish to add, you can configure individual thresholds for these flags. Failure of the test will not be triggered until the number you set here is passed.
Example: If you set the threshold for the Secondary Device flag to six, then the learner will fail the test once they reach seven violations of that particular flag.
Tip: If you have added a flag by mistake, you can always press the trashcan icon at the right of the flag to delete it.
After the test has been completed, Honorlock will display a particular message for the proctoring status. The defaults for these messages are:
Condition for message | Default message text |
---|---|
The test is in Finalization status | Your session requires validation by Honorlock™ |
The test needs a proctoring review | Your session requires validation by an instructor. This process can take up to 15 days. |
The test is in Invalid status | Your test has been marked as invalid. The guidelines have been violated. |
If you wish to customize the message or messages that are displayed after the test has been completed, you can activate the checkbox next to the message or messages you wish to customize.
Once you have added custom messages, you will be able to activate the Translate fields switch, should you wish to also localize the custom message. As soon as you activate the Translate fields switch, a dropdown box will appear giving you a list of languages that you can translate the custom message into. This list of languages will reflect the list of active languages in your platform. Depending on which language you select in this list, you will see the language you are currently editing in referenced above the text editor for the customized test completion messages.
When you have completed performing the customizations, press Confirm.
Configuring proctoring in test training material via the Course management
In order to proctor a test training material via Course management, the functionality must first be activated. To do so, access the Course Management page by pressing the Gears icon and in the left hand menu, select Course Management. Next, find the training materials for which you would like to add proctoring and press the title of the item.
Next, in the course, access the Training Material tab.
In the Training material tab, press the drop-down menu button next to the test training material.
In the resulting drop-down menu, select Edit.
In the Edit screen, place a checkmark in the Activate proctoring functionality and use Honorlock to validate this test checkbox. Next, press Edit Configuration to edit the proctoring settings.
Setting flag thresholds

Configuring exam settings
Every proctored exam in Docebo can be individually configured within Honorlock. To access this functionality, navigate to the exam in your course and press Exam settings.
Next, press Allow to accept the Honorlock data sharing permissions.
Next, in the exam settings window, if you wish to receive email notifications advising you of when sessions are available for assessment, turn on the Send email notifications when recommended sessions are available for this assessment toggle and enter your email address in the text field. You can add multiple email addresses, separated by commas. Then press Add. If you wish to remove an email address from the list, select one or more email addresses and press the Remove Email Addresses button.
In the Proctoring Setting section, you can customize the behavior of Honorlock within the exam. Choose which features you wish to turn on or off by pressing the appropriate check mark.
Please note: If you disable the Record Webcam, Record Screen and Room Scan options, manual reviews for this exam will be disabled. At least one of the three options must remain active in order to be able to review the exam manually.
Next, scroll to the Test Taker Guidelines section where you can configure the types of actions allowed in the exam, such as allowing an open book or being permitted to take restroom breaks. To activate any option, press the appropriate checkbox next to the action. These options will be presented to the exam taker prior to taking the test.
You can also specify additional text that will be displayed prior to the exam, to do so, press the Show Additional Instructions button.
In the resulting text box, you can write additional instructions or present additional information that might be useful to the test taker.
Next, in the Assessment Accommodations section, you may enter text instructions that will be presented to the proctor upon review of the exam in order to communicate specific accommodations to take into consideration when reviewing the exam.
Next, in the Assessment Visibility section, press the drop down menu to change whether or not the exam taker will be able to view the assessment outside of the assigned assessment dates.
Next, press the Save button to apply the settings to the exam.
Then, press Close. Your custom settings for this exam have been saved.
