Introduction
The Slide Converter tool allows you to convert PDF, ODP, PPT, and PPTX files into a sequence of snapshots that can be played on the platform without the need to download the presentations on a device. This allows you to create presentations as training material in your formal learning courses. This article outlines how to upload and manage these training materials on your platform.
Requirements & limitations
- The maximum file size is 1024 MB or 150 pages
Uploading and converting presentations
In order to upload and convert a presentation for a course, access the Admin Menu from the gear icon in the top right corner of your platform, then press the Course Management item from the E-Learning section. Then, on the main Courses Management page, find the course in the list of courses for which you would like to upload a presentation, click on its description and move to the Training Material tab.
Press the Add Training Material button. From the dropdown menu, select Slides Converter. On the upload page, either select the file to upload from your device or drag and drop it in the upload area.
When the file upload is complete, it will be automatically converted into a presentation. Please note that the number of pages or slides in your file impacts the time needed to complete the conversion. If your presentation includes more than 150 pages or slides, we suggest you split the file into two or smaller files to speed up the conversion and to make it more manageable for learners.
Please note: Animations, hyperlinks, videos and audios are not uploaded into the presentation, but are returned only as a snapshot. If your presentation contains animations, hyperlinks, videos or audios, we suggest you simplify them and make sure that the result is exactly what you intend to present to your learners.
If you have large images in your presentation, you may want to apply CSS to adjust the margins so that you can add a scrollbar to make the image more readable for learners. The CSS must be placed under the Custom Style section in the Configure Branding and Look area of your platform. Remember that the CSS will then be applied to all slides, so you need to find a proper solution for all slides.
Managing your presentation
Once the preview of your presentation is displayed, add a title by clicking on the Authoring Title icon, then select Continue to proceed. Add a short description for your presentation as well as a thumbnail. Either select one of the available thumbnails or upload your own.
You can also add tags to your training material to improve its searchability in your platform’s global search. If the auto-tagging feature is enabled in your platform, some tags may be automatically generated based on the content of your training material, as understood by your platform using artificial intelligence (note that this only works for English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese content). You can edit or remove tags at any time, with a limit of 15 tags per training material and of 32 characters per tag. For security reasons, the platform artificial intelligence does not access private content (that is, content requiring authentication to be accessed) and can thus automatically generate tags only for public content. When uploading private content, we suggest you add tags manually. The accepted file types for auto-tagging in your learning platform are:
Content type | Value |
Text files | .txt, .csv, .json, .rtf |
Document files | .doc, .docx, .odt, .ppt, .pptx, .pdf, .xlsx, .xls |
Image files | .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .tif |
Web files | .html, .htm |
Video files | .mp4, .mov |
Google Docs | Docs, Sheets, Slides |
Linked online videos from: | YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia |
SCORM, AICC, and xAPI Files |
Text from HTML pages Transcript from audios and videos (flash videos, swf, mp4, mov, wav, mp3, mkv, ogg, flac) Text from documents and images (csv, doc, docx, jpeg, odt, pdf, pptx, ppt, rtf, tiff, txt, xlsx, xls) AICC internal course metadata (title, description) |
Press Continue and select your player settings and navigation preferences.
Press Publish to complete your publication.
The presentation is now available in the Training Material tab where you can edit or delete it, or switch to the Learner View using the Play button in the top right section of the screen to see what the presentation looks like for your learners.
If you need to upload an edited version of the presentation, select the Edit icon in the training material’s row, then upload the new file. The presentation details will remain the same on the platform. Optionally, you can manage the presentation also from or from the Central Repository, but remember that Slides Converter training material does not support versioning if they are in the Central Repository. Also note that when updating your presentation with a new version, tags are not automatically regenerated by the platform's artificial intelligence, but you can still update them manually.
Please Note: These training materials are marked as complete when the last slide is viewed.
