Introduction
Channels are curated collections that allow you to easily and quickly access training content organized by categories or topics.
Depending how your platform is configured, channels may include only formal content (courses and learning plans), or they may also include informal assets contributed by other learners or by designated experts (images, videos, PDFs, playlists etc).
This article covers how to view and interact with the channels available on your platform.
View the channels available on your platform
To access the channels on your platform, from the User menu select All channels.
This will open the All channels page. Two tabs are visible on this page: All and Followed. The All tab lists all the channels available to you, while the Followed tab contains only those you have chosen to follow.
Each channel is shown on a separate row:
- You can browse its content horizontally by clicking the previous (<) / next (>) arrows: Up to 23 cards are visible in this way, after which you need to click the “View all” card to see the remaining content.
- You can also directly click the channel title to view all its content on one page.
The channels that you see on this page will depend on how your platform is configured
Channels available on all platforms:
- Continue to watch and learn. This channel includes all of the courses and learning plans that you still need to complete or finish watching.
- New invitations and subscriptions. This channel includes all of the courses or learning plans in which you are enrolled.
- My learning activity history. This channel includes all of the courses or learning plans that you have already completed, and all the assets you have already watched.
- Custom channels: Additionally, your administrator may have created custom channels for you, in which they manually curate what content is included. In this case you will also see those channels on this page.
Channels available on platforms that support Skills:
- My Skills: This is an AI-based channel that will automatically be populated with content according to the skills that you selected. Learn more about the My skills channel.
- Custom AI-based channels: Additionally, your administrator may have created custom AI-based channels, which are automatically populated based on a selection of skill sets.
Please note that the My Skills and other AI-based channels are only populated with content and visible to you if you have set up your skills in the platform. For more information see the article My Skills.
Filter content in channels
Both on the All channels page and on individual channel pages, you can filter content using the Filters button. Keep in mind that the skills displayed in the filter are those associated with your user profile and not the skills associated with the channel’s content. Make sure to add the desired skills to your profile.
Once at least one filter has been selected, use the dropdown menu on the right side of the page to sort your content: alphabetically (A to Z or Z to A) or by date (newest to oldest or vice versa).
Depending on channel configuration, when using the filter inside a channel, you may also be able to filter by skill targets: select if you want to display all content or only content that is associated with skills for which you have or haven’t yet set a skill target. Learn more about skill targets.
View channel experts and their contributions
When you open a channel page, if the channel has any experts, you can click the Assigned experts link underneath the channel title to see the list experts for that channel. Click on the name of an expert to view their personal channel of content.
View another user’s contributions
In case of assets shared by users, you will see the name of the user who contributed the asset on the content card.
Click on the name to view that user’s personal channel.
As a learner, you can only view channels and content that your administrator has given you permission to view. This means that when you’re viewing another user’s personal channel, you may not see all of the content uploaded by that user if the user published the content in a channel that you don’t have permission to view.
Check number of views for an asset
On the asset’s card, you will also see the number of views for that asset. This is the number of different users who viewed that asset. If the same user viewed that asset twice, the number of views is incremented only by one unit, not two.
Following channels
From your All channels page or from the Channels widget in your homepage, you can follow the channels you are interested in and then find them in the Followed tab of the All channels page.
Only custom channels manually populated by your administrator can be followed. The built-in channels (Continue to watch and learn, New invitations and subscriptions, My learning activity history) and those populated by artificial intelligence (My skills, and custom AI-based channels) cannot be followed.
Click the Follow button to start following a channel. If your administrator has configured the notifications related to followed channels, a bell icon will appear. By clicking it, you will be able to choose which type of notifications to receive among the following (please note that your administrator may have set only some of these options):
- All notifications: you will receive a notification every time new content is added to the channel.
- Digest: you will receive a single notification with a summary of the new content added to the channels you follow. Note that the frequency of your digest notifications is determined by your platform’s administrator (hourly, daily, weekly or monthly).
- None: you will not receive any notification.
If your administrator has not set any notifications, the bell icon will not be visible.
Please note: You will only receive notifications related to the moment a content is added to a channel. If a course that is not visible to you is assigned to a channel that you follow, and the visibility of the course is subsequently changed, you will not receive any notification.
To stop following a channel, click Following and confirm your choice in the pop-up that will appear.
Curate the content in your channels
To help keep your learning view organized and focused on what’s most relevant, you can do the following:
- Temporarily hide certain content cards in your channels. This does not remove them altogether, and you can later unhide them when needed. See the article Hiding content.
- Mark certain assets or courses as outdated. This will not hide or remove the content, but it will alert the platform administrator or the asset owner. See the article Marking content as outdated.
My channel page
Depending on how the administrator set up your platform, you may have a personal channel, named My channel. You can reach it by opening the main menu and selecting My channel.
This channel collects all of the content that you have uploaded in the platform and any playlists that you’ve created. When you upload a piece of content, if you choose the Only me option when deciding who you want to share it with, it will only be visible to you and the people that you specifically invite to view the content. When viewing your channel, other users will only see the content you uploaded in channels that they have permission to view.
As an option, you can customize the description of your My channel page by clicking on the description under the page header.
Click on the Filters button to filter your content, and use the dropdown menu on the right side of the page to sort your content: alphabetically (A to Z or Z to A) or by date (newest to oldest or vice versa).
When your assets are marked as outdated:
If other users have marked any of your contributions as outdated, in your My channel page you will see an Outdated label on the content card. You can also apply a filter to see only the content that is marked outdated.
- If you update the asset file or link, the Outdated label will be removed.
- Remember that you cannot mark your own assets as outdated.
If the Digest: Assets marked as outdated notification is configured on your platform, you will receive a periodic notification listing the assets contributed by you that have been marked as outdated. From your My channel page you can then update or delete those assets, thus always keeping your My channel up-to-date.
