Introduction
Learners reach an AI roleplay through a course. When you publish a roleplay, you choose a folder for its training material and assign it to one or more courses. This article explains the model and the steps.
To create and publish a roleplay, see Creating and managing AI roleplays. To see what learners experience, see Practicing with AI roleplay and reading your report.
Requirements and limitations
- Only Superadmins can publish and assign roleplays at release.
- Course assignment is unavailable until you choose a training material folder.
- A roleplay can have only one training material. You cannot create a second training material for the same roleplay.
- Superadmins see all training material folders and all courses in the platform.
How delivery works
A training material is the delivery wrapper that lets a roleplay appear in a course. The roleplay itself stays managed in the AI roleplay section.
- Edit the roleplay in the AI roleplay section, never in the training material. Changes apply everywhere the roleplay is used, in every course that contains it.
- One roleplay has one training material. You can add that training material to as many courses as you need.
- The training material is created when you publish the roleplay. It is not created automatically when you create the roleplay.
Please note: Because all courses share the same roleplay, editing a roleplay that is already assigned changes it for every course and every learner who has not yet started it.
Publishing a roleplay and assigning it to courses
Open the assignment panel
You can start from two places:
- From the dashboard: in the AI roleplay section, click Publish on the roleplay row. If the roleplay is already assigned, click the number of courses in the Publishing column instead.
- From the roleplay: open the roleplay and click Publish at the top right. If the roleplay is already assigned, the button shows Assigned, followed by the number of courses.
Both open the Publish roleplay panel.
Use the Publish roleplay panel
The panel has two sections.
In Training material, the Folder location field shows the folder where the training material is stored. Click the field to choose another folder.
In Assigned courses, click Assign to courses, select one or more courses and confirm. Then click Confirm in the panel to save your changes.
Please note: You can assign the roleplay to more courses at any time, by reopening the panel. You cannot unassign a course in this panel. To unassign a course, use Course management.
Finding the roleplay in the course builder
In the course builder, the roleplay appears as a training material in the course. When you add training material to a course, AI roleplay appears as its own content type, called AI roleplay.
How completion is tracked
Completion is tracked through the course, like other training materials. When a learner finishes a roleplay, the result is sent to the course through the standard tracking used for training materials.
By default, an AI roleplay is completed when the report is generated successfully, which means the conversation was performed. If a pass score is set, the roleplay is completed when the learner reaches the pass score. If reviewers are assigned and submission is required, the roleplay is completed when the learner submits the report. If a pass score is also set, the learner can submit only a report that reaches the pass score. Learn more in Configuring evaluation, rubrics and reviewers in AI roleplay.
