Introduction
In your platform, users can be categorized based on groups. Cohorts allow you to manage the visibility of channels’ content and of Questions/Comments according to the group of belonging.
When cohorts are enabled on the channel visibility for groups, the content uploaded on the channel by the members of a group will be visible only to the other group members, Superadmins and Experts. While the contents uploaded by Superadmin and Experts will be visible to all groups within cohorts.
In addition, also the questions and the comments made by users are filtered according to the cohort they belong to.
This article describes how to activate cohorts, and how to use the cohort filter in the Question & Answer page. In addition, it provides you with some use cases on how to take advantage from this feature.
Please note: Only Superadmins can enable Cohorts, Power Users will not see the activation option in their platform.
Use cases
Cohorts are useful in different scenarios, such as:
External training
Your company offers trainings for your products to customers or resellers. Your audience is organized in groups (one group per customer/reseller) and they all attend the same trainings. You want them to interact on training subject in a channel while isolating their contributions and questions & answers at group level.
Managing contests
You are organizing a contest in your company and you create a channel for it. The people participating in the contest are divided into groups, a group per team. You share common content (such as the contest rules) on the channel, but you don’t want teams to interact with each other in order not to spoil their own ideas.
Please note: Cohorts can be enabled for assets, not for formal courses.
Enabling Cohorts
In order to enable Cohorts for channels, please reach the Channel management section from the Admin menu, click on the gear icon in the top right corner, then select the Channels item from the E-Learning section. Click on the name of the channel of your interest, reach the Visibility section and check the Enable Cohorts option.
Please note: Cohorts are not available for branches. When the Enable Cohorts option is enabled, the Branches tab will be hidden.
The Questions and Answers page
Once you have enabled cohorts for any of the channels in your platform, users will see assets shared by people in the same cohort, by Superadmins and experts as well as the Questions & Answers page related to these assets.
Please note: Superadmins and experts have full visibility on all questions and answers in channels and in the Q&A page. In addition, they will be able to filter content in the Q&A page and the asset Q&As area by selecting one or more cohorts.
To do so, move to the Questions & Answers page of the main menu, click on Filters and select the Cohorts option. From here select one or more cohorts to filter the questions according to the content published by the selected cohorts.
Please note: If an asset is shared across multiple channels, cohorts are applied only to the channel in which users are members of a cohort, they will see the questions and answers from the other channels.
