Introduction
Configuring course player settings is crucial for boosting learner engagement by enabling intuitive navigation and a personalized learning experience. Configure the player according to your content and the needs of your learners to enhance their overall learning experience.
This article outlines how to configure the course player page at the course level.
The settings displayed in this tab default their configuration to the selection made in the Configure branding and look menu, Course player area. To override the default settings, first select the checkbox to activate a section, then adjust the options as needed. Default settings are marked with the (default) suffix.
Please note: The player settings configured at the course level take priority over both the default settings in the Configure branding and look menu and the learning plan setting, if the course is part of one or more learning plans.
Learn more on how to use the course player as a learner in the Knowledge Base article on the course player for learners.
Configuring the course player
Access the Admin menu, then press the Course management subitem in the E-learning section. Find the course in the list on the main Course Management table and click on the course description. While in the Properties tab, move to the Player section.
Starting view (e-learning courses only)
In the Starting view section, set whether learners will land directly on the course player page or on an introductory course overview page displayed before the course player. This page shows the course and enrollment details and helps learners focus more on the course content once they access the course player since the player will be the page's main focus.
Depending on the course configuration and the learner's enrollment status, the overview page includes various types of information about the course and the learner’s enrollment, aiming to provide a clear understanding of what to expect.
Course widgets are always displayed under the course player and not on the overview page, regardless of whether the overview page is active or not.
Player background image (e-learning courses only)
In this section, set whether to enable a custom background image for the course player of this course, then select it among the available images (Select image option) or press the Upload image button to upload an image from your device.
Set now whether you want to keep the original image size, or stretch the image to the default page size (900 x 510px).
Focus mode
Use this area to activate and deactivate the focus mode for the training material included in this course.
This configuration is optimal for an immersive learning experience and minimizes distractions.
Please note: Differently from the other course player settings, the focus mode setting chosen at the learning plan level is applied as the default to all courses in the plan, overriding any course-level configuration to ensure consistent navigation.
Syllabus visibility (e-learning courses only)
From this section, customize the default visibility of the course syllabus by selecting whether to hide or display it when a learner enters the course.
The syllabus visibility is also managed directly by learners by using the panel button on the course player page using the Show course syllabus - Close course syllabus buttons at the top of the syllabus area.
When the Focus mode is enabled, the syllabus is hidden by default, but learners can still choose to show it manually.
Course autoplay (e-learning courses only)
From this section, enable a custom autoplay mode for the course.
If you enable the autoplay, the first training material that has not been completed or started will begin automatically as soon as the user accesses the course. The learner won't need to go to the course page and select the training material. This option makes the sequential navigation policy between the training materials more accessible for users.
This option automatically activates and cannot be deactivated when the Focus mode option is enabled.
Tip: Activate the autoplay option to reduce the number of clicks needed to navigate through the course.
Theater mode navigation (e-learning courses only)
Set whether to show or hide the navigation buttons for any training material played in theater mode.
When the Focus mode is enabled, the theater mode navigation configuration is automatically disabled.
Appearance
Set the appearance of the course player for the course: dark mode or light mode. This setting regulates the color of text, the course header and the Course syllabus area for all learners.
By default, the course player is displayed in dark mode.
