Introduction
Gamification is a great way to enhance the learning experience and increase learner engagement. Refer to the Gamification main article to learn more about the Gamification app activation, features, badges and contests.
Leaderboards allow learners to compete and gain points. You can create leaderboards for different groups and branches.
This article shows how to create and manage leaderboards.
Use case scenarios
Leaderboards for specific badges
Your company is a restaurant franchise. Create a new security and safety leaderboard and select only the badges assigned by security and safety training.
Anonymous leaderboards
If your company operates in a country with strict privacy regulation, keep users anonymous. Leaderboard participants can see their own ranking but cannot see the name and profile picture of other participants.
Note: Anonymity applies to users only. Superadmins always see the names and profile pictures of the leaderboard’s participants.
Viewing and configuring leaderboards
To create and manage leaderboards, access your platform as the Superadmin, go to Navigation menu > Configuration (spanner icon) > Gamification > Leaderboards.
Only Superadmins can create and manage leaderboards.
The Leaderboards page lists all the leaderboards available on your platform.
Use the search area to look for a specific leaderboard and sort the leaderboards alphabetically from the Name column.
Publish or unpublish a leaderboard from the Status column.
A default leaderboard is listed on this page. It includes all the users that have earned at least one badge. You can edit and preview the default leaderboard but you cannot delete it. The default leaderboard is unpublished by default. You need to publish it to make it available to learners.
Creating leaderboards
Click the New leaderboard button in the top-right corner of the page to create a leaderboard. Enter the name of the leaderboard in the right panel, and click Create and edit.
Optionally, click Select fields language to translate the name of the leaderboard and show it to users in their preferred language.
Configuring leaderboards
Configure your leaderboard as follows:
General tab
Edit the name of the leaderboard, if needed.
Optionally, click Enable time options for this leaderboard to either set a start date, an end date, or an availability period.
Availability tab
People selection section
Select the leaderboard’s participants:
- Users from all groups and branches
- A custom selection of groups and branches
- Segment availability by branch
Notes on the Segment availability by branch option:
- When you select a branch, each member of its sub-branch sees only the users belonging to the same sub-branch in the leaderboard. However, if a user belongs to a sub-branch and its parent branch, they will see all the members of the branch in the leaderboard, not only the members of their specific sub-branch.
- When you select a branch and later add sub-branches to it, the leaderboard’s branch selection is automatically updated.
Anonymity section
Select this option to keep users anonymous in this leaderboard. Participants will not see the name and profile picture of other leaderboard’s participants. Anonymity applies to users only. Superadmins always see the names and profile pictures of the leaderboard’s participants.
Badges tab
Choose all badges or a custom selection of badges of the leaderboard. Only the badges you select give points to users in the leaderboard.
Once you have completed the leaderboard configuration, click Leaderboard preview to see how learners view the leaderboard. If several users have the same number of points, they will have the same ranking on the leaderboard.
All the leaderboards can be deleted except the default one.
