Disclaimer: The Advanced mode of Insights embeds tools and functionalities from AWS QuickSight. In this article, you will find links to the AWS Quicksight User guide. Some of the QuickSight features are not included in Advanced Insights because they have been deactivated, predefined in your account, or they are managed by Docebo. For this reason, you will find some differences between the features described in the QuickSight User guide and the ones included in Advanced Insights. These differences are detailed in the following chapters.
Introduction
The Insights area of your learning platform allows you to collect data and useful information on the activities taking place on your platform. Insights comes with a number of built-in dashboards. You can also build your own custom dashboards picking visuals from the Visual library according to your needs.
You can go one step further using Advanced Insights. Learn about Advanced Insights.
Questions and answers
Using datasets
Can I create a visual using multiple datasets?
No, each visual can only rely on one single dataset.
In the Learning plan datasets, why do I see a value for the field learning_plan_completion_dt even though the learning plan is not completed?
The field learning_plan_completion_dt is populated whenever the last mandatory course of the learning plan is completed. Two reasons can cause this field to be populated when the learning plan is not yet completed:
- Other mandatory courses in the learning plan are not yet completed
- New courses were added to the learning plan later
Can I create my own datasets as specified in the AWS QuickSight User guide?
No, the datasets provided by Docebo cannot be modified, and new datasets cannot be added. However, it is possible to extend the datasets by adding calculated fields.
Remember that you might find differences between the features described in the QuickSight User guide and the ones included in Advanced Insights. Some of QuickSight features are not included in Advanced Insights because they have been deactivated, predefined in your account, or they are managed by Docebo.
Using dashboards and visuals
Can I build a visual on course credits?
Yes, information on Training credits are found in the Course enrollments and completions dataset.
Can I build forecasts / predictive analytics with Advanced Insights?
Yes, please check the Quicksight user guide for more details.
I see null values in my visual or table, what does it mean?
A null value means there is no value recorded for the field you are using. This is because it was not set by any user nor by the application itself. For example, it could be an optional field in the course properties, or the completion date in a non-completed course.
How can I remove the null values from my visual?
To remove null values from a visual, follow these steps:
- Click on the Filters icon in the header.
- Add a new filter or edit an existing one applying to the selected visual.
- From the Filter type drop-down menu, select Custom filter list.
- From the Filter condition drop-down menu, select Exclude. Leave the List field empty.
- From the Null options drop-down menu, select Exclude nulls
- Click on Apply
I see 'empty' values in my visual or table, what does it mean?
It means that for part of the lines in the dataset you are using, the value recorded for the field you are using is '' (empty string)
How can I remove 'empty' values from my visual?
To remove empty values from a visual, follow these steps:
- Click on the Filters icon in the header.
- Add a new filter or edit an existing one applying to the selected visual.
- From the Filter type drop-down menu, select Custom filter list.
- From the Filter condition drop-down menu, select Exclude.
- Leave the List field empty.
- Click on Apply.
Can I create custom drill down interactions in my dashboard?
Yes, you can. Please read the Quicksight user guide for more information.
Using additional fields
Can I use different additional fields for different dashboards?
The User additional fields and Course additional fields you have set on your platform can be used when editing a dashboard with Advanced Insights. To use an additional field, follow the steps outlined in the article Using Advanced Insights.
You will be able to assign up to five User additional fields and five Course additional fields to each dashboard.
Why can I not see any values when using additional fields for my dashboard?
When editing the parameters of the additional field you want to use, make sure you follow these guidelines:
- Do not edit the Name field.
- Edit the Static default value field, to add the label of the additional field you want to use. Please note: The value you enter here must precisely match the label of the additional field set on your platform (respecting the case).
- If your additional field label is not set in English on the platform, you must edit the CustomAdditionalFieldLanguage field to set it to the language used (respecting the case).
Using filters
Do standard filters found on the Filters tab when editing a dashboard with Insights apply to custom visuals made with Advanced Insights?
Yes, the standard filters will also apply to the custom visuals that you build with Advanced Insights. But this will only be true if the data is also included in the same dataset. For example, Certifications filters only apply to the Certifications datasets.
Date filters require an extra step to be available to users. When editing the filter, after having set the filter type and conditions, you need to map the filter to the relevant parameters. Enable the checkbox Use parameters and set a start date and an end date. Learn more on the use of Filters with Advanced Insights.
Troubleshooting
Why is my dashboard not loading and freezing on the loading screen?
If your dashboard is not loading anymore, try to clear the cache of your browser. The issue might be related to your internet browser.
