Disclaimer: Your platform may also include legacy certifications, previously managed by the Certification and retraining app. Legacy certifications are listed in the Legacy certifications tab of the My activities page and follow different rules. This article refers to learning plans and certifications. Refer to the article Certificates and certifications for more information on legacy certifications.
Introduction
Certifications are learning programs that award a certification when learners complete all required courses.
Certifications can expire, so you may need to renew them to keep them valid. To learn how to keep a certification valid after it expires, read the article Renewing certifications.
This article explains how to find your certifications, how the certification overview page works, and how to complete a certification.
You can also complete certifications on the mobile app. For more information, read the article Completing learning plans and certifications on the mobile app.
Finding your certifications
You can find certifications in the same places where you find your courses and learning plans. Each certification has its own card, so you can tell it apart from a learning plan.
My courses and learning plans: Select Certifications in the Type filter to show only certifications. Use the Certification status filter to find certifications that are valid, expiring, expired, or in renewal.
My activities page, Learning plans and certifications tab: View the certifications you are enrolled in and their expiration status.
Click Go to certification at the end of a row to open the certification overview page.
Course catalog: Browse certifications alongside courses and learning plans. Each card shows the content type. Click a certification card to show the certification overview page and enroll or buy the certification. Learn more about self-enrollment from catalogs.
Global search: Search for a certification by keyword. Select Courses and learning plans in the results, and select Certification from the Type filter.
Widgets: Certifications may appear on widgets configured by the platform’s administrator.
Please note: the My activities page also lists legacy certifications in the corresponding tab.
Understanding a certification status
The certification status shows whether your certification is currently Valid, Expiring, or Expired.
- Valid: You earned the certification and it has not expired.
- Expiring: The certification you have earned is approaching its expiration date.
- Expired: The expiration date of the certification you have earned has already passed.
Depending on your administrator’s notification settings, you may receive a notification when your certification is approaching its expiration date or has expired.
Please note: The certification status is different from the enrollment status that shows your progress in the training: Not started, In progress or Completed. A certification is completed when you have completed all of its mandatory courses or if the administrator has manually marked the certification as completed.
The certification overview page
When opening a certification, you land on the certification overview page.
It shows all the certification details including:
- Your progress in the certification: Not started, In progress, Completed
- The courses included in the certification and your progress in each one
- The certification status (Valid, Expiring, Expired)
- The certification’s expiration date and the renewal window dates, if applicable
Actions on the certification overview page
Available actions depend on your progress in the certification:
- Get certified: You are enrolled in the certification but you have not started it.
- Resume training: You started the certification (or its renewal) and have not finished it.
- Renew now: The certification you have earned is in its renewal window and you can renew it.
Once you have completed a course in a certification, you can replay the course by clicking Replay next to the course description, whether the certification has expired or not.
Please note: Replaying a course does not renew your certification and does not change its status. To renew a certification, use Renew now.
Completing a certification
To complete a certification, complete all of its mandatory courses (e-learning or Instructor-Led Training courses).
You can play the courses in any order unless the administrator has set prerequisites. The course player will open the next available course according to those settings.
When you complete the last mandatory course, the platform awards the certification, sets its issue date and, if the certification expires, calculates its expiration date. A pop-up on the course player informs you of the achievement.
An administrator can also issue a certification manually.
Please note: When a certification is under maintenance, a padlock appears on its card and you cannot open it. You can still complete the courses it contains by directly accessing them in the My courses and learning plans page. Your progress still counts toward the certification.
If the certification awards a certificate, click Download certificate on the certification overview page. Learn more about certificates in the article Certificates and certifications.
Completing certifications on mobile
You can also complete and renew certifications on the mobile app. Learn more about certifications on the mobile app.
Earning badges
If your administrator sets up the Gamification app, you can earn a badge or points when you complete a certification, including each time you renew it. Badges you earn appear in the Badges tab of the My activities page and the My badges area of the platform.
Please note: Badges for certifications apply only from the moment your administrator creates the badge assignment rule. Certifications you completed earlier do not earn a badge retroactively.
