Introduction
Connect Slack so the AI assistant and agents can search selected channels at the moment a user asks a question.
This is a live connector. Nothing from Slack is copied, indexed, or stored in Docebo. When a user asks a question, Docebo searches the channels you've made available at that moment, using the user's own Slack account.
How permissions work for Slack: each colleague connects their own Slack account the first time it's needed. Every search then runs as that user, so they only see what they could open in Slack themselves. The account you use during setup is only used to set up the connection and to list the channels you can choose from.
1. Prerequisites in the source system
Required role
You need permission to create apps in your Slack workspace. If your workspace requires admin approval for new apps, a workspace admin must approve the app once (see step 3).
Required settings
The account you authorize with must be a member of every private channel you want to make available.
2. Preparation in the source system
You can either create a new Slack app from the manifest Docebo provides (recommended), or reuse an app you already have.
Create the Slack app from the manifest
- On the Authorize tab in Docebo, copy the manifest with the copy button.
- Open Create a Slack app (api.slack.com/apps) and sign in to Slack if asked.
- Choose From a manifest, select your workspace, and click Next.
- Switch the editor to JSON, replace its content with the manifest, then click Next and Create and Install.
Slack opens the Basic Information page of the new app. The manifest already contains the permissions and the redirect URL, so there's nothing else to configure.
The manifest requests these user token scopes:
| Scope | What it allows |
|---|---|
| channels:read | View basic information about public channels |
| channels:history | View messages and other content in public channels |
| groups:read | View basic information about private channels you have access to |
| groups:history | View messages and other content in private channels you have access to |
| search:read.public | Search messages and files in public channels |
| search:read.private | Search messages and files in private channels you have access to |
| search:read.users | Search for people in the workspace |
| users:read | View people in the workspace |
Already have a Slack app? Reuse it instead
Skip the manifest and set up your existing app:
- Open the app on api.slack.com/apps and go to OAuth & Permissions.
- Under Redirect URLs, add the callback URL shown in Docebo and click Save URLs. It follows this pattern: https://[YOUR-DOCEBO-PLATFORM-URL]/knowledge/v1/integrations/connections/callback, for example https://demo.docebosaas.com/knowledge/v1/integrations/connections/callback.
- Under Scopes → User Token Scopes, add every scope listed above.
- Keep Token Rotation off. Nothing on the Agents page needs to be turned on, so leave the Slack MCP Server toggle off.
- If Slack asks you to reinstall the app, do so, then continue with the next section.
3. Required actions in Docebo
| Information to enter | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Client ID | Slack app → Basic Information → App Credentials |
| Client secret | Slack app → Basic Information → App Credentials. Click Show next to Client Secret. Don't use the Signing Secret |
Authorizing the connector
- Go to Add-ons and integrations → Knowledge Connectors → Create → Slack. This menu is only visible to Superadmins. On the Overview tab, review what will be searched and select Get started.
- On the Authorize tab, follow the steps to create or reuse your Slack app (see Preparation).
- On the Basic Information page of your app, under App Credentials, copy the Client ID and Client secret into the fields on the Authorize tab.
- Select Authenticate, sign in with the Slack account that is a member of every private channel you want to make available, and click Allow. If your workspace requires admin approval for new apps, Slack shows a request screen instead. A workspace admin approves the app once, then you select Authenticate again.
- On the Channels tab, select the channels you want to make available, then save your selection.
