Introduction
AI roleplay lets you practice a real-world conversation with a virtual character and get a report on how you did. This article explains how to start a simulation from your course, what to expect during the conversation and how to read your report.
Requirements and limitations
- Your Superadmin must have added the roleplay to a course you are enrolled in.
- For Video and Voice modes, your browser needs access to your camera and microphone. Chat mode uses text only.
- The report is based on the conversation transcript only. It evaluates what you said or wrote, not vocal delivery or body language.
- If your Superadmin has set a time limit or a number of attempts, those limits apply to you.
Starting a simulation
First, open the course that contains the roleplay. Next, find the roleplay in the course content, where it appears as a training material. Then open it from the course player.
The landing page
Before you start, a landing page shows information set by your Superadmin, such as a description of the roleplay, how the simulation works, how you will be evaluated and any additional instructions.
Read it before you start. It also contains the setup and legal information you need before you begin. Click the start button when you are ready.
Camera and microphone check
In Video and Voice modes, your browser asks for access to your camera and microphone. Allow access so the check can complete.
Legal consent
Before you can start, select the checkbox to agree to the legal terms.
During the roleplay
Interaction modes
Your Superadmin chooses how you interact with the character.
- Video: you talk with an animated character that speaks and moves on screen.
- Voice: you talk with the character while a static image appears on screen.
- Chat: you exchange written messages with the character. No image is shown.
Speaking or typing
In Video and Voice modes, you speak. The roleplay transcribes what you say in real time, and the character answers aloud. In Chat mode, you type your messages.
Time limit and attempts
In Video and Voice modes, the Superadmin can set a time limit of 5 to 20 minutes. The Superadmin also sets how many attempts you have. By default, a roleplay allows one attempt.
Ending a simulation
The simulation ends when you finish the conversation or when the time limit is reached.
Please note: If the conversation is too short, the roleplay may not produce a full report.
Reading your report
At the end of the roleplay, the full transcript, spoken or written, is analyzed and a report is generated. The report is available immediately, and you can open it again at any time from the course player. You can see both the report and the transcript.
The structure of the report depends on how your Superadmin set up the evaluation.
Default report
If no custom rubric is set, the report includes the following:
- Overall feedback, with strengths and areas for improvement.
- Tone of voice, based on your transcript, covering clarity, confidence and energy.
- Key quotes that highlight strong and weak moments.
Qualitative rubric report
For each criterion, the report shows the following:
- The outcome: Good or Developing.
- The observable behaviors behind the feedback.
- Direct quotes from your conversation as evidence.
Quantitative rubric report
The report shows the following:
- A numeric score for each criterion, for example 4 out of 5, with a rationale.
- An overall score, calculated as a weighted average if weights are set, or a simple average otherwise.
- Pass or Fail next to the overall score, if your Superadmin set a pass score.
- An explanation of how the overall score was calculated.
If the conversation does not contain enough evidence for a criterion, that criterion receives the minimum score (1) and the rationale is marked as insufficient evidence.
After the report: retake or submit
Depending on how the roleplay is configured, you can retake the roleplay if you have attempts remaining, or submit the roleplay.
If reviewers are assigned to the roleplay, you must submit it. Submitting makes your report available to the reviewers, and submission is required to complete the course item. Your Superadmin may also not require the roleplay for completion.
Giving feedback on the roleplay
After you review your report, you can give a thumbs up or thumbs down on your experience from the roleplay summary page. This feedback is anonymous, is not shared with Superadmins, does not affect your score and is used only by Docebo to improve AI roleplay.
If you cannot start a simulation
If simulations are not available to you, you cannot start the simulation.
Contact your Superadmin to ask them to check the simulation balance for your account.
