Introduction
Certifications are learning programs that award a certification when learners complete all required courses. You can assign certifications to individual users, branches, or groups to validate expertise in a specific area.
Certifications and learning plans are both types of learning programs and share many common settings. This article describes the properties that are specific to certifications.

Create a certification or open an existing one. On the Properties tab, go to the Recertification section and configure the following settings.
Certification expiration
Enable Certification expiration, then choose how the expiration date is set.
Fixed date
The certification expires automatically at the end of the specified date.
Enter the expiration date in MM-DD format. The certification expires at the end of that day. The expiration time cannot be customized.
Calculate from the issue date
The certification expires a specific number of days after it has been issued. Enter the number of days.
Optionally, enable a soft deadline. When enabled, learners can still renew their certification after it expires until the end of the month or the end of the year, depending on the selected option.
Renewal policy
After enabling certification expiration, choose when learners can renew their certification.
Select one of the following options:
Learners can renew their certification at any time.
Learners have a renewal window to renew their certification:
- Set the start of the renewal window (x days before expiration)
- Set the duration of the renewal window:
- Until the certification expires
- A specific number of days
- With no deadline
