Introduction
Docebo Companion is a Web Browser Extension (WBE) that brings relevant learning closer to where work happens. By integrating with the Docebo platform, Companion provides timely, contextual training based on the webpage you’re viewing - helping you access the right knowledge without switching tools. Alongside curated learning materials, learners can also use Harmony search to quickly find answers or discover additional resources directly from the browser. Once logged in, Companion automatically recognizes the page you’re on and surfaces the most relevant content, making continuous learning easier, faster and more natural throughout your day.
Docebo Companion is a two-part system, a set of curated pages configured as spaces and a web browser extension that is connected to your platform.
This article is aimed at platform administrators who wish to learn about configuring Spaces for Companion. For more information on the browser extension, please see Docebo Companion: Using the browser extension.
Configuring Spaces for Companion
Access your platform as a Superadmin and press the gears icon in the top right corner. Next, in the Admin menu, locate the Web Browser extension item and press Manage.
For your first access, you will be presented with a blank screen inviting you to create a new space. Press the New space button to create your first space.
Next, give your space a name and add a URL for the space.
Tip: You can use wildcards (*) in the URL you assign to a space:
| Wildcard type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Exact match | No wildcard - The exact URL only is matched for the content assigned to the space to display in Companion |
https://www.docebo.com/foo
|
| Subdomain | The wildcard is placed in the subdomain - This causes the content assigned to the space to display for all subdomains of a particular top-level domain. |
https://*.docebo.comThis would display content on (for example):
|
| Wildcard in path | The wildcard is placed in the path of the URL - This causes all text after the given URL to be treated as acceptable for displaying content. |
https://www.docebo.com/*This would display content on (for example):
|
| Default |
The wildcard is placed immediately after
https://
- This
causes the content to display on all websites.
|
https://*This would display content on (for example):
|
This will allow you to utilize the browser extension on that particular domain. When you have entered the required information, press Create and edit to continue.
Please note:
- Pay attention to the complete URL you are associating, make sure to check if the URL uses
www, for example.- Make sure to use
https://in the beginning of the URL.- Pay close attention to the placement and usage of wildcards in the URL
The next step is to assign content to your space. This will allow you to refine the type of content, which can be courses, assets or learning plans, that will be displayed when a learner visits this particular space. Different spaces can have different content criteria allowing you to, for example, assign courses pertaining to your HR guidelines when someone visits your HR system or display compliance learning plans when your users visit a finance site. To assign content to your space, press the Assign content button.
Next, in the slide-in window, you can select courses, assets or learning plans by pressing the appropriate tab. You may select up to ten items spread across these three areas in total. When you are done assigning content to your space, press the Assign button.
Next, press the Save changes button located at the bottom of the screen.
You can now change to the content tab of the space and review the content you have added. If you wish to unassign content from a space, simply press the Unassign button next to the content you wish to remove, then press Save changes at the bottom of the screen. If you would like to add more content, you can press the Assign content button to return to the content selection screen. Content can be reordered by dragging the items within the list to a new position. The order displayed in Companion will match the order you set here.
When you are satisfied with your choice of content, you may publish the space which will make it available to the browser extension. Change the drop-down menu marked as Unpublished to Published and press Save changes.
Your space will now display as a card in the main Browser extension screen. There you can see the name of the space, the URL associated with the space, whether it is published or not and how many pieces of content are assigned to the space. You can unpublish the space by pressing the switch in the top right corner of the card, you can delete the space by pressing the trashcan icon in the bottom right corner of the card and you can return to the configuration screen for the space by pressing the Edit button.
Tip: The configuration of learning spaces is optional. Companion can be used without learning spaces, allowing learners to interact with the Harmony functionality directly in their web browser.
