With Pages, LMS Admins now have a completely new way to design the learners’ experience, end-to-end with no coding required, by composing pages using building blocks and creating different menus for each audience. When referring to the "old" or "new" management of Pages, "old" refers to Docebo versions 7.3 or any previous release, while "new" refers to Docebo versions 7.4 and higher.
This article answers various questions for Superadmins related to handling the transition period from the old to the new management of LMS pages and menus.
Q: What are the main differences between the old and the new management of pages and menus?
The new management of pages and menus offers a more flexible way for Superadmins to handle page layouts and organize them into user menus:
- You can create more than one menu, and then associate them to user groups, branches or levels, instead of having a single menu and changing the visibility rules of the single menu items.
- When designing new pages, you can take advantage of pre-created templates (preset pages with a built-in set of widgets to ease and speed up the page creation process).
- The page preview has been enhanced to show the widgets inserted into the page with sample data, instead of loading database content that may not be available.
- New widgets are added, and some already-existing widgets have new settings.
- Optimized graphics in line with the 7.0 theme.
Q: When will the switch to the new pages management take place?
The new management for pages and menus is available for all customers using the 7.0 theme. Starting from
March 7th, 2018, the new pages management will be active by default on all the
newly activated Docebo trials. Thus, these trials will have no choice but to use the new pages management.
For existing platforms, customers switching to the 7.0 theme will have
four months after the first Superadmin login to the platform upon switching the theme to 7.0 to learn the new module and activate the new pages. Please note that this login can come from any Superadmin, not just the Superadmin that made the theme switch. This provides ample time for Superadmins to become familiar with the new pages and menus management.
For those already using the 7.0 theme, the switch can manually take place at any time after the release of the new pages management, or will take place automatically after the four-month trial period has ended.
Additionally, a message at the top of the
Manage Pages and the
Manage Menus areas in your platform will remind you of the deadline, which is calculated as the day of the first Super admin login after the switch plus four months.
Please note that there is no time limit for switching to the 7.0 theme. You can switch whenever you’re ready. After switching to the 7.0 theme, you will have four months to activate the new pages management starting from the first Superadmin login. Please remember that all the new functionalities are released on the 7.0 theme only.
Q: How do I switch to the 7.0 theme?
To learn about switching themes, refer to
this article if the Knowledge Base.
Once the 7.0 theme is active, login as the Superadmin and access the
Admin Menu from the
gear icon in the top right corner of your platform, then navigate to either the
Manage Pages or the
Manage Menus section to see dashboards, pages and menus migrated to the 7.0 theme.
Q: What happens to my 6.9 pages and menus when I switch to the 7.0 theme?
All the existing 6.9 pages as well as the menus listed in the
Dashboard Layout and the
Main Menu Items areas of your platform will be automatically ported to new pages and menus in the new corresponding sections, and will be available for the Superadmin to review and edit.
Every 6.9 widget will be ported to the corresponding 7.0 widget. A new LMS widget page will be created for every 6.9 dashboard. Please note that the visibility of widget pages depends on whether they are inserted into menus or not. The new widget pages will be automatically named “My Dashboard,” and their old names will be used as the description.
Q: What happens if I want to stay on the 6.9 theme?
For those wanting to stay on the 6.9 theme, nothing will change, meaning that pages and menus will continue to be managed in the usual way.
Q: What happens to the pages that are not dashboards?
6.9 pages that are not dashboards will be also automatically migrated, but they will have
no visibility to the users until the Superadmin adds them to menus. With the 6.9 theme, visibility can be set at page level, while with the 7.0 theme visibility is configured via menus.
Q: Where do I see the new pages?
In order to see the migrated dashboards, access the
Admin Menu by pressing the
gear icon, then select the
Manage Pages item in the
Settings area. In the same area, use the Manage Menus option to access the menu management. The new sections are highlighted by the
New tooltip, while the old sections to be dismissed (
Main Menu Items and
Dashboard Layout) are identified by an exclamation point.
Q: Can I edit the migrated dashboards?
The layout of the new widget pages (the old dashboard) could be different from the original one because of the differences in the pages and widgets structures. Please refer to the table at the end of this document for further information on the differences between the old and the new widgets. Superadmins can make changes in order to meet the needs and expectations of the LMS users before officially activating them. Use the
Manage Pages item in the
Setting section of the
Admin Menu for this reason. In the same area, use the
Manage Menus item to organize pages into menus.
Q: Can I restore the previous version of my pages?
After the pages activation, the
Restore Old Version button will be made available for you to downgrade to the previous version of your pages, dashboards and menus.
Please note that the four-month countdown will not stop upon restoring theme 6.9.
Q: How do I officially activate the new pages before the transition period ends?
When you’re ready to make the new pages and menus visible to the LMS users, either access the
Manage Pages or the
Manage Menus item, then press the
Activate button in the section header.
The page will automatically reload to display the new dashboards and menus. From now on, the
Main Menu Items and
Dashboard Layout main menu items will no longer be shown in the
Admin Menu.
Q: What happens when the transition period ends?
At the end of the transition period, if the new management of pages and menus has not been yet activated, the switch will be done automatically by the platform, and it will no longer be possible to roll back.
Q: What happens if the Extended Enterprise App is active?
When the
Extended Enterprise App is active, the platform behavior will be the same as described above, but a few extra rules will apply:
- It is not mandatory to activate the new pages for all the nodes of the Extended Enterprise simultaneously, the Superadmin can activate the new pages on the nodes as soon as they are ready.
- The new pages will be available only for the nodes that are using the 7.0 theme. Nodes using 6.9 theme will keep using the old pages and menus.
Q: What are the differences between the old and the new widgets?
The table below outlines all of the available widgets, both on the 6.9 theme (
Old Widget) and on the 7.0 theme (
New Widget). The
Old Parameters column shows the parameters available on the 6.9 theme, while the
New Parameters column shows the parameters available on the 7.0 theme.
Note on the HTML/WYSIWIG widget: the widget aspect may look different from the old to the migrated pages, due to different HTML code management. Some rules have been introduced to ease the migration, such as the automatic resize of images and videos in order not to exceed the widget component size, but
the HTML content and the HTML content layout in this widget is under your responsibility. Any issue rising from a not properly configured HTML code, even in case of migration to new platform/module versions, relies on you, not on Docebo.
