Introduction
Starting on May 17, 2023, in order to maximize social and informal learning, AI-based channels have focused on internal formal and informal content and have no longer supported external content. This may have an impact on platforms using Discover, Coach & Share. This article will guide you through the possible cases you may find yourself into and the actions you can take following the deprecation of external content in AI-based channels.
Please note! This transition only regards the possibility for AI-based channels to be automatically populated with skill-related external content, not the possibility for users to share external content in channels or with other users in the platform. Your users can continue sharing links to external web pages as before.
Channels Containing External Content
In your platform, you may have configured AI-based channels containing also external content.
Since May 17, 2023, the External Content option has no longer been available for the Content Type configuration, so the channels remain configured to contain only internal formal and/or informal content, according to your previous configuration. Learn more on how to manage AI-based channels.
Channels Containing External Content Only
In your platform, you may have configured AI-based channels containing only external content.
On May 17, 2023, these channels were unpublished, and their Content Type configuration was set to Formal Content, as a default. After the deprecation of external content sources, you can decide whether you want to change the content type setting and/or publish the channels again. Learn more on how to manage AI-based channels.
The My Skills Channel
If your My Skills channel’s Content Type configuration was set to external content only, on May 17, 2023, the My Skills channel was unpublished, and its Content Type configuration was set to Formal Content, as a default. Moreover, the My Skills page was removed from the user menu.
After the deprecation of external content sources, you can decide whether you want to change the content type setting and/or publish the channel again by following the instructions you can find in the Knowledge Base article on AI-based channels, but you also need to add the page to the user menu again. Learn more on how to manage user menus.
Best Practices
If you use My Skills or any other AI-based channels in your platform, make sure that you have properly assigned skills to your internal formal and informal content and that this is visible to your learners. This helps ensure that your channels remain populated and that learners continue to have access to relevant and personalized content, even after May 17, 2023, as external content is no longer available in AI-based channels.
Assigning skills to your content is a best practice that not only prepares you for this change but also benefits your learners in the long run. Learn more on how to assign skills to courses and assets.
